George V (1910-36),gold proof Sovereign, 1911, bare head left, BM on truncation for engraver Bertram Mackennal, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX F. D. IND: IMP:,rev.St George and dragon right, date in exergue, B.P. to upper right of exergue (WR 416; Hill 213A; Bull EGC 1433; S.3996). A nice example, graded by NGC as PF61. The Latin legends translates on obverse as "George the Fifth by the Grace of God, King of all the Britons, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India."
By the time of the Coronation of George V the brilliant proof finish was back in fashion and this coin features in the long and short gold proof sets of his coinage with the portrait by the Australian sculptor Bertram MacKennal.
