*RARE* NGC AU58 1890 Victoria Jubilee Gold Half Sovereign Shieldback
Victoria (1837-1901), gold Half-Sovereign, 1890, low shield, Jubilee style, bust facing left, designed by J. Edgar Boehm, small crown and veil on head, plain truncation, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, high shield, date below either side of bottom, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF: (DISH L509; Hill 479; Bull EGC 1364; M.C.E.608; S.3869C). Toned, with surface marks and some wear, slabbed and graded by NGC as AU58. NGC Certification 6671213-002
We note as of May 2025 that NGC have graded 129x examples, of which only 19x are finer than the AU58 seen here; PCGS have graded 13x, of which 6x are finer.
The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse as "Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith." |
