1957 ELIZABETH II Full Gold Sovereign - NGC MS62 - QE2 First Issue Bullion Sovereign
1957 ELIZABETH II Full Gold Sovereign - NGC MS62 - QE2 First Issue Bullion Sovereign
The 1957 Full Sovereign was the first mass-produced gold sovereign issued during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, marking the end of a 20-year break in Sovereign production. It features the first coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Mary Gillick on the obverse and the classic St. George and dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci on the reverse. The 1957 Sovereign is also notable for its unique edge milling, which has 168 grains instead of the 108 grains on other Elizabeth II sovereigns and is highly sought after in the collector community. Known colloquially as a Gillick sovereign.
Graded and authenticated by the NGC with a MS62 grading which for this particular year is a very respectable grade. Comes with luxury display box and complimentary 1g Valcambi Silver bar. Some slight surface marks/ scuff to NGC capsule from previous storage in slab holder.
